Michael Waterman is not only the passionate leader of the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, but also an excellent arranger. In this concert, he makes arrangements of two great compositions. One is Schumann’s Cello Concerto . Soloist is Daniel Müller-Schott, winner of the 1992 Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. The other is Beethoven’s String Quartet ‘Serioso’, which blends effortlessly into an arrangement for string orchestra. In addition, two works originally written for strings. Famous is Grieg’s gallant Holberg Suite . In Orawa, Kilar draws inspiration from the folk music of the mountainous south of his native Poland.
